Education post education

Imagen
I write now about something really intriguing to me, the idea of doing a postgraduate course. It’s a decision that I’m not completely secure about which one would be the ideal for me, but I’ve some inclination for some of them. I want to dedicate my life to the photography, being a documentalist and politic too, so in a first place I’d love to course an aesthetics degree in a university, but I’d like to finish my history degree, I’m at second year there, but I’m completely secure about finish it. As a post graduate course, the public politics master would be a great choice, to finish with a PHD on Latin-American studies. I’d love to study here, in Chile, but the UBA of Argentina is an option that calls me a lot, the Complutense of Madrid would be an interesting option due of the needing of living in a different continent, same as the Paris University. My first option, of course is the Universidad de Chile, ever.  I’d like to study in a presential way, I don’t like e-learning system...

Being a photographer

The job is a complex determination, by now I’m not completely secure what could be my job. I would like to job as a photographer, that is what I really am. I’d love to work as a photographer, I imagine myself in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, or anywhere I would have to be, trying to expose and denouncing the cruelty and the human rights violations all over the world, always with my camera. Also I would like to work as a documentarist, in similar spaces, but I think both jobs could exist together. I would job outdoors always, I feel uncomfortable in closed spaces (even I hate elevators, of course I use them, but I don’t like those machines).  I would travel a lot in my desired jobs, but the ideal way to me is staying some days in Chile and some traveling.  I study journalism, but I’m at a history degree to, but I won’t complete that career until I finish journalism, but I would love to complete history. I would like to course a public politics master or some one related to arts, I t...

Walking on a cloudy day

Imagen
It was 2019, I was so stressed, and I needed to give a breath to my mind. My Mamiya camera always has been my therapy, that machine is so heavy, around 2.5kg, is slow to work, really slow, it generates that I measurement the light with my phone because it’s only mechanic, it doesn’t have a battery compartment, just metal, glass, 10 photos each film and precision.  I remember it was April, at the middle of the month, the sun wasn’t present, there was clouds only, a really cloudy day, and cool too. My freezer only had low speed films, but those films were legendary emulsions, the Kodak Vericolor III and the Plus-X, the second is my favorite film ever (I’ve only used it 3 times, that day was the second). I picked up my backpack, the camera, those two films and my journalism student card. I went out, took a bus and arrived at the nearest train line.  I began to walk and shot the first photos on the color film, the lasts on Vericolor were taken to some “animitas”, then I put the Pl...

An elemental thing in my life

Imagen
Almost every human has a picture of their beloved people at their wallets or currently, at their smartphones, with no doubt the photography is an essential part of our lives. I remember that my grandpa lent me its camera to take a picture, my first picture, I was around five years old.   The photography transformed into my hobby when I began to course an afterschool workshop, that happened during 2006 to 2007. I got my first camera during that first year, 2006. My grandpa, Benito, realized that I really liked to take photos, and I had a lot of interest into the workshop, so he decided to give me his camera, his Canon AV-1 of 1978.   Antofagasta, 2018 Canon AV-1 and Kodak Tri-X 400 Since that time photography has been a fundamental part of my life. Now, I’m a photographer, I’ve worked as a portrait photographer and also as a biker photographer. But, the most important photographic work I’ve had is to be assistant teacher at the university. Santiago, 2019 Mamiya RB67 Pro SD and ...

Buenos Aires: my favorite holidays

Imagen
One of my favorite holidays was the second time I went to my most beloved city in the entire world, Buenos Aires. That trip was due of a classification match of the Chilean national soccer team. But that wasn’t the main thing, I was happy because I went with my grandpa and family, that was his first international flight. We went on March of 2017, from Wednesday to Sunday . The first day was the match, the Monumental was the home of the soccer encounter. Argentina was local, Chile the visitor, so we had to go together with the Red Marea, that was a terrible experience, but the fact of could see a match into a giant stadium was great. Chile lost, but that was statics only. The second day was amazing, I took part of a manifestation for the justice in the human rights violation cases happened during the dictatorship, “son 30.000” said the banners. I took the first photos near the congress of the nation, and the last ones, at Plaza de Mayo. As a photographer and journalism student, it ...

A country I would like to visit: Cuba

Imagen
I would like to take a tour in Cuba. I have visited that country one time in my life, but I loved it and I would like to visit that magical place again, however this time, I’d love to go with my girlfriend.  Since the beginning, the arrival to Jose Martí airport was amazing, it’s a really amazing airport, the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Then when I met La Habana (or Havana), I simply felt in love with that city, its architecture is incredible, the charm of the people, the cars, the spirit of the Cuban revolution, everything is magical in Cuba. The life in Cuba is different of here, of course due of the economic limitations imposed by USA, the life is harder, the tourists see that but, if they only visit the most usual places, they won’t see the real Cuba. I’d love to live there, I’d love to live in La Habana and to study or work there, as future journalist or as a photographer every street is a point of inspiration. When I went, I was four days at La Habana, that was great ...
